Civitan Programs
Michigan Civitan Clubs, along with other Civitan clubs world-wide, participate in Civitan International Programs and Fundraisers.
Civitan Foundation
The Civitan Foundation is the charitable arm of the Civitan organization. The Foundation invests funds contributed by Civitans and others to provide money for scholarships and educational grants. It also distributes funds in the form of grants to organizations in their work for indivuals with developmental disabilities.
Civitan International Research Center
Through interdisciplinary research, clinical services, and community programs, the Civitan International Research Center improves the lives of people at risk for, or affected by developmental disabilities. The Center conducts research on the development of the central nervous system, with special emphasis on human development and developmental disabilities. Because the Civitan International Research Center is a Center of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Research, Education and Service, it also provides training for professionals to become leaders in the field of developmental disabilities.
Clubs Junior Civitan
Junior Civitan is a service organization for middle school and high school students that enriches the lives of today's youth and develops tomorrow's leaders. Club membership provides students with personal and career development opportunities while improving schools and communities through service.
Campus Civitan ClubsCampus
Civitan Clubs offer college students the opportunity to develop leadership and public speaking abilities, learn managerial and organizational skills, discover the importance of teamwork and networking while making a positive contribution to their communities.
Clergy Appreciation Week
Since 1960, Civitan clubs have recognized their local clergy during the first week of February for Clergy Appreciation Week. What began as a remembrance of 4 military chaplains of different faiths who gave up their life vests during the sinking of the USS Dorchester on February 3, 1943, has become a recognition of the work all clergy do for our communities.
Civitan Awareness Month
April is the month when Civitans are recognized for their contributions to their local community. During Civitan Awareness Month, Civitan clubs receive recognition through radio, television and print media, receive proclamations from local, state and national politicians, and conduct special events and observances to recognize outstanding members, projects and to spread the spirit of service fostered by Civitans everywhere.
Fundraisers
Breakthru Golf Program
Every year during the Civitan International's Annual Convention, Civitans come together to play golf and raise money for the Civitan International Foundation's Civitan International Research Center.
Claxton Fruitcake Program
For over half a century, Civitans have been selling Claxton Fruitcake to fund various community service projects. Today, local Civitan Clubs work with area grocery retailers to continue to bring Claxton fruitcake to the community and fund local service projects.
Civitan's Candy/Coin Box Project
Civitan's Candy/Coin Box project is the most important source of funds for the Civitan International Foundation. Because Civitan volunteers place and maintain the boxes in local restaurants and businesses, all resulting income, above the direct costs of materials, actually goes to charitable activities. All the money raised is restricted to projects which aid people with disabilities. Pocket change is used to help people with mental and physical disabilities in the local community and around the world.
